At afternoon of May 11, 2017, Prof. Zongyuan Yang, the Executive Director of International Joint Lab of Earthquake Engineering (ILEE) of Tongji University, was invited to give a presentation themed on The Research and Development of Advanced Experiment and Measuring Methods for Earthquake Engineering at Multi-functional Hall, College of Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University.

Being the researcher of the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (the US), the associate professor of Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Applied Science, University of British Columbia, Canada, Prof. Zongyuan Yang was selected into the national 13th “1 Thousand Youths Program”. During the presentation, Prof. Yang introduced a new generation of experimental methods for earthquake engineering: to combine finite element simulation with experiment for avoiding overlarge scale, long time-consumption and expensive costs. Furthermore, the principles, advantages and disadvantages of experimental control methods including linear control system, improved linear control system, and nonlinear control system, etc., as well as the research achievements of his team are shared in a humorous way. After presentation, Prof. Yang answered all the academic questions asked by students and teachers and had an active communications with them in respect learning methods. In a harmonious and friendly atmosphere, this lecture came to an end. This lecture extends the general knowledge of teachers and students of our college, and provides new ideas for the scientific research activities in the future.
