“Design Calculation Method and Application for Concrete-filled Steel Tube Arch Bridges” co-authored by Baochun Chen, Jiangang Wei and Qingxiong Wu was published in July 2014 by China Architecture & Building Press.

The technical system of Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular (CFST) arch bridges has been gradually formed in China based on their applications and the relevant research activities of more than twenty years, especially on the extensive experience of their design, construction and maintenance. The national standard “Technical Code for Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Arch Bridges” (GB 50923-2013) was approved on 1stJan. 2013 by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China (through its announcement [2013] Nr. 210) and published by the same ministry in collaboration with General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China.The implementation of the aforementioned standard will be enforced since 1stJune 2014. The standard summaries the experiences of design, construction and maintenance which have been gained practically in China and abroad, and meanwhile reference has been taken on all the relevant standards, codes and the comments and suggestions collected from many different institutes and researchers, which were excellent and effective. The standard was jointly developed by Fuzhou University and China State Construction Engineering Corporation with the contributions from the other relevant units. Based on the various case studies in development of“Technical Code for Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Arch Bridges”, the new book “Design and Calculation Methods of the Concrete-filled Steel Tube Arch Bridges and their applications” addresses in detail the preparation and development of the code and some specific applications of the design and calculation methods.

The book is written by the chief members for the development of“Technical Code for Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Arch Bridges” (GB 50923-2013). It is informative, well organized, authoritative in its interpretation and helpful to the readers in understanding and using the design and calculation methods in the code. Therefore, it will also become an important reference for industrial and academic units and individuals, who are engaged in the design and research activities of CFST arch bridges. In addition, the book could also serve as a reference for undergraduates and graduates students of civil engineering major for their study, as well as the researchers on composite structures and bridge engineering.
