On the morning of November 7, 2025, the 2025 Maritime Silk Road International Industry-University-Research-Application Cooperation Conference officially opened at the Lecture Hall of Jinjiang Building, Qishan Campus of Fuzhou University. Academician Minghong Wu, President of Fuzhou University, Professor Fangda You, President of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Malaysia), Professor Huanghao Yang, Vice President of Fuzhou University, and Comrade Yuezhong Wang, Second-Class Inspector of the Fujian Provincial Department of Education, attended the opening ceremony. With the theme of “Innovation Links the Digital Maritime Silk Road, Industrial Co-construction for a Green Future”, this conference focuses on the needs of collaborative development of industry-university-research-application among countries along the Maritime Silk Road. It gathers representatives from well-known universities, scientific research institutions and leading industrial enterprises from Malaysia, Indonesia, Croatia, Cyprus and other countries, constructing a platform for in-depth integration and exchange of international industry-university-research-application, and contributing to the construction of the “Belt and Road” innovation ecosystem.
During the opening ceremony, Secretary Tangfeng Wu of the College awarded appointment letters to Professors Pierfrancesco Cacciola, Alessandro Contento, and Associate Professor Ahad Javanmardi, who are foreign co-supervisors for joint talent cultivation. In accordance with the cooperation plan, the appointed experts will deeply participate in the joint training of postgraduates, providing support for Fuzhou University to improve its international talent training system and enhance the international competitiveness of its disciplines.

After the opening ceremony, the Parallel Session on “Intelligent Construction Technology and Demonstration Applications” — one of the core thematic sessions of the conference — continued to be held at the main venue. Hosted by Fuzhou University and specifically organized by its College of Civil Engineering, this parallel session is rooted in the global frontier of intelligent construction technology development and the practical needs of infrastructure construction under the “Belt and Road” Initiative. It brought together top experts and scholars from universities, scientific research institutions, and leading enterprises at home and abroad to discuss the paths for infrastructure connectivity and sustainable development among “Belt and Road” countries, focusing on key directions such as technological innovation breakthroughs in intelligent construction, practical applications of demonstration projects, and cross-regional standard coordination. Experts from home and abroad shared in-depth insights on key technologies and practical applications: Professor Pierfrancesco Cacciola from the college focused on heritage building protection, introducing the theoretical innovations and engineering cases of vibration barrier technology in seismic retrofitting; Expert Xudong Li from Bentley Systems analyzed the application scenarios and value of digital twin technology throughout the entire intelligent construction process (design, construction, operation and maintenance), and proposed its core “digital base” architecture; Professor Miaoyi Li from the Architectural Design & Research Institute of Fuzhou University elaborated on the achievements of CIM technology in spatial planning optimization and infrastructure collaborative management in the context of urban renewal. The invited reports covered hot topics including intelligent operation and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, foundation scouring monitoring of cross-river bridges, internationalization of railway construction standards, and 3D-printed special-shaped concrete components. Experts from institutions such as Fuzhou University, East China Jiaotong University, Xiamen University, and CRCC International Consulting Co., Ltd. shared cutting-edge achievements in a “theory + case” format, providing multi-dimensional technical references and cooperation ideas.
The successful holding of this Parallel Session on “Intelligent Construction Technology and Demonstration Applications” has further strengthened the technical exchange and cooperation bonds between China and countries along the Maritime Silk Road in the field of intelligent construction, injecting innovative momentum into the infrastructure development under the “Belt and Road” Initiative. The College will continue to leverage its advantages in disciplines, talent, and scientific research platforms, deepen the “industry-university-research-application” collaborative innovation mechanism, strengthen cross-regional cooperation with universities and enterprises at home and abroad, promote the industrialization and international promotion of intelligent construction technology, and contribute more intellectual support and technical solutions to the high-quality development of the “Belt and Road” Initiative.
The International Industry-University-Research-Application Achievement Exhibition was held simultaneously on the first floor of Jinjiang Building. It showcased the fruitful achievements of the College’s international cooperation in recent years and presented the solid practical footprint of universities in Fujian Province and their global partners in scientific research, talent cultivation, and achievement transformation.

Researcher Zhaohui Chen, Associate Researcher of the College, presented an explanation on the College’s international scientific research achievements.
