On the morning of October 14, 2025, 30 foreign participants from Laos, Ghana, and Nigeria, part of the “Belt and Road” Countries Tunnel Engineering and Technology Training Program sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and undertaken by the Fujian Provincial Foreign Economic Cooperation Center, visited the College of Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University for an inspection tour. The event aims to build an international exchange platform, share China’s experience and Fujian’s practices, and deepen cooperation between the college and “Belt and Road” countries in the field of infrastructure.

Professor Tangfeng Wu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the college, Researcher Huihui Yuan, Assistant to the Dean, and relevant teachers and students extended a warm reception. Secretary Tangfeng Wu introduced the college’s historical development, faculty strength, and talent cultivation system, while Researcher Yuan Huihui explained the situation regarding international cooperation and exchanges as well as laboratory construction, helping the foreign guests gain a preliminary understanding of the college’s comprehensive strength.

The first stop of the visit was the Asphalt Laboratory at the Advanced Materials Center. Associate Researcher Song Xu introduced the experimental research, application, and related equipment of asphalt materials, and both parties conducted exchanges focusing on the performance optimization of asphalt materials.

Subsequently, the visitors toured the Smart Construction Center for Civil Engineering and the Traffic Safety Laboratory. The team led by Associate Professor Binghui Fan, in combination with tunnel engineering scenarios, explained how smart construction technologies enhance the efficiency of engineering construction, operation, and maintenance. The team led by Professor Yanqun Yang introduced traffic safety detection technologies, research directions, and practical cases.

Next, the foreign guests proceeded to the No. 2 Laboratory Building. Researcher Huihui Yuan demonstrated the MTS system, while Senior Experimental Engineer Qu Wang explained the principles and applications of the shaking table system. Combined with the needs of tunnel engineering structural stress analysis and disaster resistance performance testing, they illustrated the scientific research and engineering value of the equipment.

At the final stop, the foreign guests visited the No. 1 Laboratory Building. Dr. Yanbo Wen introduced the functions of the light gas gun system, while Experimental Engineer Wen Wei, combining tunnel engineering cases, explained the equipment’s application in structural performance testing and disaster simulation and She also addressed the foreign guests’ technical questions and cooperation inquiries.

This visit provided an exchange and learning opportunity for tunnel engineering practitioners from “Belt and Road” countries, demonstrated China’s scientific research and technological strength in the field of civil engineering, and also built a platform for the college to showcase itself to the outside world. In the future, the college will continue to deepen cooperation with universities and institutions in “Belt and Road” countries, carry out practical cooperation in infrastructure construction and technological research and development, and contribute the strength of universities to the implementation of the “Belt and Road” Initiative.
