Media Center Report / On March 18th, the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty of Engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), jointly held with the Mexican Academy of Engineering, took place at UNAM. Professor Bruno Briseghella of the College of Civil Engineering at Fuzhou University was invited to attend and was formally conferred the title of “Member of the Mexican Academy of Engineering”.

Over the long term, Professor Bruno has played a vital role as an important link in academic exchanges between China and Mexico in the field of engineering. This honor is not only a high recognition of his academic attainments and international contributions in bridge engineering from the Mexican engineering community, but also a full affirmation of the achievements of cooperation between China and Mexico in this field.

Before the appointment ceremony, Professor Bruno Briseghella of the College of Civil Engineering was invited to deliver an academic lecture titled “Innovations in Bridge Engineering: High-Quality Development for a Sustainable Future”. He shared his cutting-edge research achievements in the field of bridge engineering innovation and sustainable development, which drew intense attention and lively discussions from the experts attending the meeting.

Professor Bruno Briseghella, a preeminent Italian expert in bridge engineering, is a Professor at the College of Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University, and a national-level high-caliber talent. He currently serves as President of the International Association of Jointless Bridges, and previously held the post of Chairman of the Permanent Academic Committee of the International Conference on Arch Bridges (ICAB). With decades of intensive dedication to the research and practice of bridge engineering, Professor Briseghella has published more than 190 academic papers, authored 8 monographs in Chinese and English including Integral Abutment and Jointless Bridges, and holds over 10 national patents. He has led nearly 20 European scientific research projects and programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and spearheaded the establishment of in-depth cooperative partnerships with higher education institutions in 25 countries jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The technological achievements developed under his leadership have been successfully applied to the construction of over 100 large-span, long-mileage bridges, including the world’s longest jointless bridge, providing critical technical support and practical paradigms for the green and intelligent development of bridge engineering. He has been conferred a number of prestigious honors, including the Chinese Government Friendship Award, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People’s Republic of China, and the title of “Foreign Teachers in China” Person of the Year.
