On February 27–28, local time in Nepal, a delegation from the College of Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University, led by Assistant Dean Professor Yuan Huihui, together with Professor Huang Fuyun, Associate Professor Xue Junqing and Associate Professor Zhang Dong, conducted a series of academic exchange activities in Nepal. The visit built cooperative bridges with Nepalese universities, research institutions and industrial sectors, and promoted international academic exchanges and cooperative development in the field of civil engineering.
On the morning of February 27, the delegation first visited Tribhuvan University in Nepal and held discussions with relevant officials of the university’s Faculty of Engineering and campus administration. Professor Yuan Huihui introduced the overall development of the College of Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on cooperation matters including academic exchanges and student exchanges, and exchanged views on Tribhuvan University hosting the 2027 International Symposium on Jointless and Sustainable Bridges, laying a solid foundation for the successful convening of the conference.

On the afternoon of the same day, the delegation visited the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and met with Professor Dilip Subba, Vice-President of NAST, and other researchers. Professor Huang Fuyun delivered an academic report, sharing the latest achievements of the college in the research, popularization and application of the mechanical performance of integral jointless bridges, which stimulated enthusiastic discussions. In the evening, the delegation was invited to an exchange event co-organized by the Development Cooperation Implementation Division of Nepal’s Department of Roads and Tribhuvan University. Representatives from the Nepal Branch of China Railway No.2 Engineering Group International Co., Ltd. and the local construction industry also attended the event. The delegation exchanged views with Dr. Bijaya Jaishi, an alumnus of Fuzhou University and Deputy Director-General of the Development Cooperation Implementation Division of Nepal’s Department of Roads. Professors Yuan Huihui and Huang Fuyun gave academic presentations respectively, sharing research findings in the fields of steel-concrete composite structures and jointless bridges in light of the actual needs of engineering construction in Nepal, providing technical references for local engineering practice.

On February 28, the delegation revisited Tribhuvan University and conducted in-depth exchanges and inspections at the Department of Civil Engineering. They visited teaching facilities and specialized laboratories on site to learn about its teaching and research conditions as well as talent training models. Professor Yuan Huihui introduced the educational characteristics of the College of Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University, focusing on the master’s student training program for bilateral cooperation, and clarified the direction for joint training of high-level talents. Associate Professors Xue Junqing and Zhang Dong delivered academic presentations respectively, focusing on the cutting-edge fields of jointless bridges and advanced cementitious materials, and sharing the college’s research progress and application achievements.

This exchange in Nepal is an important measure for the College of Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University to advance international cooperation and enhance the international influence of its discipline. Through multiple academic exchanges, seminars and on-site visits, the delegation established close cooperative ties with relevant institutions in Nepal and reached a number of consensuses on student exchange, joint training, academic conferences and scientific research cooperation. In the future, the College of Civil Engineering, Fuzhou University will take this exchange as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation with relevant institutions in Nepal, strengthen academic mutual learning and technical collaboration in the field of civil engineering, and support the high-quality development of the discipline. At the same time, it will contribute the strength of Fuzhou University to engineering construction and talent cultivation for countries along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
