June 8–10, 2014, Prof. Amit H. Varma from Purdue University, U.S.A visited our college. Professor Varma is mainly engaged in experimental evaluation, analysis and design of innovative modular composite structures for nuclear power facilities; Experimental and analytical investigations of the fire behavior of steel, concrete, and composite structures; Seismic behavior, model-based simulation, and performance-based design of structural systems ; Fatigue and fracture behavior of bridge structures; Repair, retrofit, and rehabilitation of damaged or deteriorating transportation structures. In the morning of June 9, Professor Varma received a warm welcome from the College in the Multi-function Hall of Civil Engineering on the first floor. A lecture for graduate students entitled "Research and Development of Steel-Concrete Composite Systems for Infrastrucure" was delivered by Prof. Varma. During his visit, Prof. Varma discussed with our professors, exchanging ideas and exploring potential cooperation fields in the near future. Prof. Varma also paid a visit to the laboratories of our college.
