The Institute of Bridge and Tunnel Engineering is mainly responsible for the training of doctoral and master's degree candidates major ing in the bridge and tunnel engineering as well as related undergraduate teaching, and undertakes tasks including scientific research, technology development and sci-tech services. The Institute is also responsible for the construction of "Bridge and Tunnel Engineering", a key discipline of Fujian Province. As an important part of the "New Civil Engineering Technologies and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation", it participates in the construction of key "Project 211" disciplines of Fuzhou University.
The Institute employs 11 full-time teachers, including 7 professors (research fellows), 3 associate professors (research associates) and 2 research assistants. 10 of these teachers have doctoral degrees and 1 has a master's degree. It also employs 9 part-time professors. Professor Chen Baochun serves as the Director.
The Institute is devoted to several research fields, such as prestressed bridge structure; arch bridge structure; long-span bridge structure; composite bridge structure; bridge structure stability and vibration; bridge health monitoring, evaluation and reinforcement; bridge seismic resistance, mitigation and isolation; and tunnel safety and monitoring.
