Collaborative Innovation Center for Sustainable Engineering Structures and Multi-Disasters Prevention and Mitigation in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone, founded on October 19, 2013, is a collaborative innovation center of Fuzhou University under the Project 211. The Center is established according to the urgent needs of the sustainable development and disaster prevention and mitigation of China. It takes mechanism and system innovation as a breakthrough to build independent collaborative innovation mode and management operation mode, tackle key technical problems involved in new materials and engineering structures for green and sustainable development and in multi-disasters prevention and mitigation, and develop new products and build the industrial chain of innovative and sustainable civil engineering structures and multi-disasters prevention and mitigation, so as to build a collaborative innovation center for sustainable engineering structures and multi-disasters prevention and mitigation in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.
In terms of institutional reform, the Center breaks the barriers between universities and external innovation forces. With Fuzhou University as the leading unit, the Center brings together Tongji University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Guangzhou University, Huaqiao University, Fujian Academy of Building Research, Wuhan Bridge Science Research Institute Co., Ltd. of China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., Zhuzhou Times New Material Technology Co, Ltd., Beijing Tehida Technology Co., Ltd., Fujian Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., and CSCEC Strait Construction and Development Co., Ltd. With the principle of all-round coordination in the field of sustainable engineering structures and multi-disasters prevention and mitigation, the Center gradually promotes the reform of institutional mechanisms in various aspects, including organizational management, personnel system, talent training, personnel evaluation, scientific research mode, resource allocation methods, international cooperation, and innovation culture construction. The Center strives to explore a new mode that can effectively realize the collaborative innovation development among the universities, between the universities and institutions, and between the universities and enterprises, and realize the deep integration of innovation and resource elements.
The Center is engaged in collaborative scientific and technological innovation around environmental protection and sustainable development application technology development, cultivating several leading enterprises in sustainable engineering structures and multi-disasters prevention and mitigation, developing emerging industrial clusters in sustainable engineering structures and multi-disasters prevention and mitigation to drive the development of related industries, and establish and develop several new economic growth points for the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone. It is also dedicated to developing advanced environmental protection and sustainable development technologies, especially the advanced purification technologies for persistent organic pollutants, to improve the environmental pollution governance level, and enhancing the ecological and environmental quality of the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone to provide reliable guarantee for the sustainable development of the social economy in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone, thus promoting the development of the sustainable engineering structures and multi-disasters prevention and mitigation technology and industrial development in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone, and strengthening the construction of science and technology innovation system in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.
