According to the list of 23 national-level international joint research centers published by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China in 2015 (GUOKEFAWAI[2015] No. 352), the "International Joint Research Center for Bridge Technology Innovation and Risk Prevention" of the College of Civil Engineering was selected. At present, it is the only national-level international joint research center in the field of bridge engineering and disaster prevention and mitigation in China.

Focusing on the needs of national development strategies such as "One Belt and One Road", the Center gives full play to the advantages of the cooperation of domestic excellent experts and foreign high-end experts, and systematically and profoundly carries out many innovative applied basic research work based on the National Engineering Research Center for "Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Mitigation Informatization in Civil Engineering" , with the "Sustainable and Innovative Bridge" Engineering Research Center of Universities in Fujian Province as the core. At present, it has become a talent highland and technology research and development center gathering Chinese and foreign experts in the field of bridge innovation and risk prevention. It is a powerful supporting force for domestic bridge enterprises to participate in international competition and an important leading force for developing quality standards for bridge infrastructure construction along the "Belt and Road".

The Center is established to give full play to the promotion and facilitating role of international scientific and technological cooperation in expanding the openness and cooperation in science and technology more effectively, improve the quality and level of China's international scientific and technological cooperation, develop the international scientific and technological cooperation mode combining "project - talent - base", and make the Center the backbone of China in utilizing global scientific and technological resources and expanding the external influence of science and technology. It also produces leading and demonstration effects on the development of field or regional international scientific and technological cooperation.
